Man rescued after driving into airport pond
News

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A motorist heading to the airport in the pre-dawn hours Tuesday morning is counting his blessings.

Driving toward the airport freight operations area, Jordan Baker turned into what he thought was an access road but it turned out to be a rain-swollen retention pond.

Baker's car nearly completely submerged in a matter of moments.

Airport police officer Jeff Hatton, on routine patrol spotted the car, dived into the pond and pulled the driver to safety.  Officers on the scene said the man could not swim and was beginning to panic when Officer Hatton came to the rescue.

Baker said he did not want to discuss the matter with First Coast News as he left the scene.
