Update: JSO made new arrests in the Haverford Road shooting. Ernest Willis Williams surrendered himself Tuesday night and is charged with murder, evidence tampering and carrying a concealed firearm.

According to the JSO arrest report, Williams said Campbell threw a drink at his brother, Dontavious Williams. He said he pulled a gun out and shot Campbell then fled and threw away the gun, the report said.

Dontavious Williams was arrested Tuesday in the same shooting and charged with perjury in official proceedings and accessory after the fact/life felony. The JSO arrest report said Williams told police that someone at the party threw a drink at him and once he wiped the alcohol from his eyes, he saw the man who had thrown the drink and another man pointing guns at him. He confirmed that Ernest Williams shot one of the men while the other one fled. He admitted he had not been honest with police initially, the report said.

Original story: JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Two suspects with long criminal histories were arrested shortly after an incident that left one person dead and another unconscious.

The fight broke out shortly before midnight Saturday on Haverford Road south of Dunn Avenue, according to Jacksonville Sheriff's Office spokesperson Melissa Bujeda.

Police learned that 100-150 people were at a party in the area.

According to an arrest report following the incident, 29-year-old Cory Brian Williams and 24-year-old Marlon Louis Brice were together, and as they go to their vehicle, Brice removed a handgun from the glove compartment.

Williams then reportedly took the gun from Brice as they walked toward a group of boys.

Williams told police they heard gunshots and a shout that someone was down, and he saw 30-year-old Kenneth Eugene Campbell on the ground in a pool of blood.  Campbell was shot multiple times and was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

The two then, according to the police report, saw a vehicle fleeing the scene, so he opened fire with his gun, striking another vehicle with several people inside.  Nobody reported being injured.

Williams told police he considered fleeing, but instead approached an officer, told the officer he was armed, and was taken into custody.

Williams is charged with shooting deadly missiles and carrying a concealed firearm.

At about the same time, another officer reported seeing Brice standing over another person kicking him in the head and upper body.

The officer thought the victim on the ground, 40-year-old Austin Wade, was already unconscious.  Wade was taken to Shands Jacksonville with life-threatening injuries, but is not in the system as of this afternoon.

Brice reportedly fled when the officer asked him to stop, and during the resulting pursuit, Brice hid in a culvert until police talked him out.

When asked why he ran, Brice told the officers he is on probation and didn't want to be caught.

Brice then admitted committing the offenses reported by the officer.

He is charged with felony battery causing great bodily harm and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Brice and Williams both have several prior arrests dating back to 2005, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office inmate information page.

The offenses for both vary, but include violation of probation, grand theft and resisting arrest without violence. Brice has additional battery charges on the web page, including one charge of battery on a law enforcement officer.

Brice is being held on $125,000 bond, and Williams is being held on $100,000 bond.
