Youth Can Win Up To $1,500 in Health-Related PSA Contest

Building on the success of last year’s competition, the Florida Bureau of Immunization (BOI) has announced an open call for entries to its second “You Call the Shots” contest. Teenagers ages 11 to 18 are invited to produce and submit a 30-second public service announcement (PSA) about HPV or meningitis immunizations.

Rules, guidelines and a contestant toolkit are available at The deadline for submission is October 21, 2011, at midnight (Eastern Time Zone). The PSA must include three to five facts from the toolkit, available on the website, regarding causes, symptoms, treatment or prevention and can be entered by individuals or groups. The You Call the Shots Facebook page, sponsored by Brunet-García Advertising, acts as a forum for contestants to share ideas and get additional information. Another new addition this year is the contest’s dedicated YouTube channel, which features last year’s winning PSAs.

A panel selected by BOI will choose the top 10 finalists on November 7, 2011, and then voting opens to the general public. The top ten PSAs will be posted to, allowing the public to vote for their favorite PSA once a day. Winners will be announced on November 28, 2011. The top three winning videos will receive a cash prize of $500, $1,000, or $1,500, sponsored by Brunet-García.

Last year’s winners, “Cover Your Mouth,” “Infected” and “Get Educated” can be viewed on the website and the You Call the Shots YouTube channel. On November 28, 2011, the winning PSAs will be posted on and the You Call the Shots YouTube channel.
