One of every three Florida children is overweight--ranking our state at 35th for its high rate of child obesity.  That number rises by nearly half among children living in families with incomes at or below the poverty level.  Childhood obesity carries with it a high risk for adult obesity and health consequences like Type 2 Diabetes, elevated cholesterol, and high blood pressure.  Click here to find out just how important Physical Education is for our children.

Studies conducted in various national locations, including Florida, have shown a direct connection between physical education and improved classroom behavior, ability to concentrate and enhance test scores!  Increased physical activity can directly impact their ability to learn and show what they’ve retained.

Katie, if you are not able to attend the school board meeting tomorrow please take moment to call your school board members as well as email your legislators and school board members here to let them know how important it is to keep physical education in Duval County.
