Volunteers Needed for Pride on the Northside Cleanup

The City of Jacksonville Keep Jacksonville Beautiful Commission is calling for volunteers to participate in Pride on the Northside, a neighborhood beautification and litter cleanup project focusing on the Lem Turner area between I-95 and the Trout River bridge. The event will be Saturday, Nov. 5 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and volunteers can sign in and collect bags and gloves at The Church Fellowhsip parking lot at 8808 Lem Turner Road.

Individuals, businesses, community groups and nonprofit organizations are all needed to help beautify and improve roadways and neighborhoods. The Teacher Supply Depot will be on site for the event to teach children about recycling by making hands-on arts and crafts and drinks and refreshments will be provided, while supplies last. Students can receive community service hour certificates; however, participants must be at least 18 years old or accompanied by an adult. Volunteers should wear sturdy footwear and sun protection. Please call or email Vivian Harrell, Keep Jacksonville Beautiful, at (904) 630-3420 or vharrell@coj.net to preregister; however, preregistration is not required.

The Nov. 5 cleanup is the kickoff for a series of planned projects to improve the Lem Turner area. Future projects will be announced as more details become available.

Sponsors of Pride on the Northside include Waste Management, Inc., Publix Super Markets, Inc., Home Depot, Panera Bread and Wal-Mart Stores.
