River Cleanup and ‘Grow One’ Initiatives Highlight Annual Celebration

As part of its annual celebration of World Environment Day (June 5), Anheuser-Busch and its Budweiser brand have again donated $150,000 to the River Network organization to help support watershed conservation projects in each of the company’s U.S. brewery cities.  In Jacksonville, Anheuser-Busch employees will be working with the St. Johns Riverkeeper organization on June 4 with a river cleanup.

“Our theme for World Environment Day is focused on water conservation efforts, and we are proud to work with St. Johns Riverkeeper on efforts to help protect the watershed,” said Steve Foppe,  general manager of the brewery.   “Water is vital to life on the planet and it's a key ingredient in brewing beer, which is why we are committed to water conservation both inside and outside our breweries.”

In addition, 60  brewery employees are participating in Budweiser’s “Grow One. Save a Million.” campaign, which asks adult men to not shave during the weeks leading up to World Environment Day, with a goal of saving one million gallons of water.  The average shave uses about five gallons of water, so by putting down our razors for two weeks, each of us can save 70 gallons of water.*  Adult consumers can get involved as well by visiting Budweiser’s Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/Budweiser) to make a pledge and share the program with Facebook friends.  Participants can commit to a range of options, from a few days to a couple of weeks.  Ladies can get involved by recruiting a guy to take the pledge.  The page also features a daily tracker of the gallons saved to date.

“Our Jacksonville Budweiser team is helping save more than 4,200 gallons of water through the Grow One program,” Foppe said.  “We hope guys throughout the area can join the effort by making a pledge on Budweiser’s Facebook page.  Even if you can only put down the razor for a day or two, every gallon counts.”

World Environment Day is the day set aside by the United Nations to create awareness of the environment and encourage participation in sustainability programs.  Anheuser-Busch and its parent company, Anheuser-Busch InBev, annually recognize this day and engage employees around the world to take action and get involved in projects that are beneficial to the environment and their local communities.
