The Salvation Army of NE Florida has been awarded a check for a whopping $100,169 from Publix Supermarkets for its hunger-serving programs. The donation will be presented to The Salvation Army by Dwaine Stevens, Media and Community Relations Manager for Publix, Jacksonville Division, at a luncheon at Metropolitan Park on Thursday, April 21.  The funds were donated at the holidays by Publix customers in an ongoing drive to support charities fighting hunger in the community.

Major Dean Hinson, Area Commander for The Salvation Army in Northeast Florida, is very pleased to have Publix shoppers as partners in the continuing battle against hunger.  “This generous donation will help us to provide groceries for thousands of struggling families right here on the First Coast,” Hinson stated.  “Publix shoppers are generously standing in the gap for those who run out of food before the next paycheck comes.”

With the help of community partners like Publix Super markets, The Salvation Army in Northeast Florida distributed over 26,000 supplemental grocery orders to those in need and provided nearly 340,000 hot, nutritious meals for the homeless in 2010.
